Mardi Gras
As Mardi Gras draws near it reminds me of the trip my father made 82 years ago to New Orleans to take in the Mardi Gras. When writing the book, I wondered how a young boy could manage being out in the elements in the winter, especially when Mardi Gras was in early February that year. My research showed that 1932 was an exceptionally mild winter and the further south he traveled, the warmer it got. It would be nearly impossible to make that trip this winter. Our polar vortex would make that train trip trip seem like the "Polar Express."
